Taming the Email Monster

More Control. Less Stress.

Practical ways to protect time for strategic priorities while navigating competing demands with confidence and professionalism.

As a result of this session, participants will:

  • Protect time for their strategic priorities more consistently and intentionally – even as new requests and demands continue to arise.
  • Engage in more open, constructive, two-way conversations about priorities and trade-offs, helping leaders and teams make better decisions that are more aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Feel more confident and less overwhelmed as they navigate competing demands and make informed (not assumed) choices about where to focus.

Made relevant, practical and engaging:

  • Content is adapted to your organization and the real priorities and pressures participants are facing.
  • Participants connect with one another, share perspectives, and explore practical ways to apply the ideas in their real work.
  • AI has enormous potential to support the practices explored in this session. Where appropriate, we can incorporate examples using your organization’s approved AI tools and policies.

Content includes how to:

  • Rethink what it means to protect strategic capacity—moving from the instinct to automatically say yes toward recognizing that asking questions and surfacing trade-offs is often the more responsible and professional move.
  • Build the confidence, psychological safety and sense of permission needed to protect strategic capacity through proactive conversations about priorities and expectations.
  • Notice the assumptions that often drive automatic yes responses—and learn how to quickly and safely test those assumptions using powerful questions. (Introducing the 5-Question Assumption Check.)
  • Use the PAUSE framework and practical “micro-moves” to navigate incoming demands – messages, meeting invites, and interruptions – while still protecting time and attention for strategic priorities.
  • Surface trade-offs diplomatically and professionally, helping leaders and teams make clearer priority decisions earlier rather than later.
  • Apply the tools to real situations participants are currently facing – building confidence and momentum to protect strategic capacity more consistently.

Available as a three-hour in-person session, a 90–120 minute virtual session, or as part of a short learning series delivered over multiple sessions.
